How much does video editing cost? 2026 rates

By Marcos Fernández Carrillo · Updated 5 October 2026

It depends on the format, the length and what the price includes. We've collected the rates published by marketplaces, agencies and studios, each with its source, and explain what pushes a quote up or down. Our own fixed prices are at the end, so you can compare.

01 · Market

Market rates by type of video.

These are the figures published by the sources below. They are indicative and don't always include the same things (tax, revisions, music), so treat them as a reference, not a quote.

02 · Factors

What pushes the price up or down.

  • Final length and raw footage. Cutting 30 seconds isn't the same as cutting 20 minutes, and reviewing an hour of takes isn't the same as reviewing ten minutes.
  • Complexity. Animated titles, motion graphics, colour grading or effects add hours.
  • Versions and formats. Every extra aspect ratio (9:16, 1:1, 16:9) or caption language is extra work if it isn't included.
  • Music. The licence depends on the use: an organic post isn't the same as a paid ad.
  • Rush delivery. Tight deadlines usually carry a surcharge.
  • Revisions. Every extra round adds time; ask how many the price includes.
  • Experience. In the UK, Videotto puts entry-level editors at £20–£40/h and senior and specialist editors at £100+/h.

03 · Pricing models

Hourly, per project or fixed.

Hourly
You pay for the actual editing time. Flexible, but you don't know the total until the end.
Per project
A custom quote for each job. Fine for one-off pieces, but you negotiate scope and deadlines every time.
Subscription
A set volume of videos per month for a flat fee. Worth it if you publish a lot, always in the same format.
Fixed price per format
A set price with a defined scope: length, deliverables and revision rounds. You know what you'll pay before you start. It's the model we use.

04 · Compare

Seven questions to compare quotes.

  1. What's the final length, and how many formats are delivered?
  2. How many rounds of changes are included?
  3. Is the music licensed for the way you'll use it?
  4. Are captions included? Animated, as an SRT file, or both?
  5. When does the turnaround start: when you order, or when they have all your footage?
  6. Does the price include VAT or sales tax?
  7. Who does the editing, and what have they worked on before?

Against the references above, our Reel sits at the low end of the published per-piece ranges; the YouTube & podcast package covers up to 20 minutes and adds 3 Shorts; and the real estate brand film is an editing price on your existing material, not a 3D production price. Our team works with a custom workflow that speeds up every edit, and a senior editor reviews every delivery. Our prices already include VAT; when comparing, check whether the other figure does.

06 · Who edits

A senior editor behind every cut.

DMARCO is Marcos Fernández Carrillo, senior video editor and motion designer. He has cut ads, motion systems and cinematic pieces for brands like BMW, Prime Video, Activision and Real Madrid, and his work has won at Cannes Lions.

08 · FAQ

Frequently asked.

How much does it cost to edit a 1-minute video?

It depends on what goes into it. Published ranges for short social videos go from $50–$400 for TikTok/Reels (Vidico) to £150–£500 for basic short-form in the UK (Videotto). Our Reel package, up to 60 s with animated captions and original music, is €49, VAT included.

How much do video editors charge per hour?

Thumbtack puts the US national average at $65 per hour (from $40 to $300). Videotto quotes £20–£40/h for entry-level UK editors and £100+/h for senior and specialist editors.

Why do prices vary so much?

Because the job varies: length, amount of raw footage, motion graphics, colour, versions, music licensing, revisions and the editor's experience. A production company usually also includes scripting, shooting, crew and direction, which an editing-only service doesn't.

Is rush editing more expensive?

Usually, yes: rush delivery tends to carry a surcharge. If you have a deadline, add it to the order form.

Is a monthly subscription worth it?

Only if you publish a lot, consistently. If your volume varies, a fixed price per video means you only pay for what you need.
